Blog 9: Hero

The media lies and hides so many information from us “the viewers” and this makes me very dissapointed at the fact that people give the media their trust and a lot of the times they lie to us or give us false information. The movie “Hero” directed by Stephen Frears get the point across that we shouldn’t trust in the media and that we shouldn’t believe everything we see on T.V.
At the end of “Hero” the media finds out who was the real person who comitted the heroic act (Bernie Laplante) and that they have been promoting the wrong guy (John Bubber) all this time. They decide to stay quiet about this and just keep on pretending that John Bubber commited the heroic  act, because this means lossing the trsut of their viewers. This makes me ask myself, “Are we being lied to right now by the media?” and “Have we ever been lied to by the media?”. Unfortunally we have been lied to by the media. Not only once nor twice, We’ve been lied to by them plenty of times and we most of the time end up buying everythign they tell us.
One really big lie that I’ve spoken about before is Manifest Destiny during the 19th century. The media had a lot to do with helping this lie spread all around America in news papers and even drawings. For the one who may not know about Manifest destiny, this was a huge lied made up by the government just so they could expand America they wanted to rule the world. They ended up telling the people who lived in America that God was the one who told them to expand America.
Many gossip magazines lie to their readers with false story about celebrities. For example The other day I was reading about a Gossip magazine making up that Cher was going to be playing cat women in the batman movie. She later on cleared up this false rumors. It’s sad that the media does things like this to us isntead of telling us the true stories and whats really happening.  Not only is magazines that be lying because there’s a bunch of gossip websites out there that be witing false ruosrs about celebrities just so they could get more viewers.
I myself don’t own a T.V because I’ve always know that the media lies to us. Who doesn’t lie? I preffer to stay away from all of their false rumors and hiden lies and live my own life. They will keep on lying and I don’t think they’ll never stop. They have us under control and we’re are too hypnotized by their lies for us to see that. Hopefully one day this will be over and they’ll decide to change their ways and let us know whats really going on so we could prepare ourselves if we need to. I remember my mom advicing me that is always better to tell the truth because one lie can bring 10 more lies.
So next time you turn on you’re T.V just know that they’re not being  an hundred percent real to you and that the media is always hiding things away from the viewers. They lied because they know we believe them and we believe that they should really know whats going on and they wouldn’t lie to us. The media is like a secrect society like the NASA . Only them knbow the real side of the story and I don’t understand why they believe is good to just feed us false rumors sometimes and hide us from the truth.

Follow up to Blog 8

Most of the time I am considered to be "The other" when it comes to my sexual orientation because I'm gay. I've been in many positions where I've listened to side conversation or people yell at me from their cars because I'm gay and that makes me feel like the other. Most of the times I don't believe it when it happens I just feel very bad for that other person instead of feeling bad for myself. When things like this happen to me I feel pity for the person who’s criticizing me because they don't really know me in other to make me feel like I’m less human than them. It makes me think that they're living very sad lives and probably they're jealous because I'm happier an confident just the way I am. I've been dealing with this type of things since I was 10 years old in elementary school that's probably why I don't pay no mind anymore, I believe this people who do this to me make me stronger I use to feel pity for myself before when I was younger but not anymore. All I know is that I'm happy and that's all that matters to me. We have all sometimes in our lives had been considered as the other sometimes in our lives and I believe this just makes us stronger.

Blog 8: The Concept of the Other

During my high school years was always with the cool people. The group that I used to hang around with in high school was known as cool people and then there was “the others.” The others were known as the boring people who were always quiet and boring. The others were always into geeky stuff and they were always doing school work.

I knew that I wasn’t anything like the others because I was always hanging around with the cool people. I never took high school seriously like the other used to, I always used to think that the only thing I would take seriously in my life was college. The others were always the quiet ones in the lunch room and in the class rooms, and my group was always loud and always making jokes. The others didn't care about what they used to wear and we we're always dressing nice because we cared about what other people thought of us.

I used to interact with some of the people from the other group but most of them were shy and they barely use to make interesting conversations.

Blog 6: Hero

At the end of the movie "Hero" Bernie Laplante tells his son that "He shouldn't believe everything he hears or see on T.V". This was one of the part that stood out the most in my opinion. Bernie is more than right when he said that to his kid. At the end of the movie "Hero" the media finds out that John Bubber didn't commit the heroic act and that it was Bernie Laplante, but they decided not to tell the people that John Bubber wasn't the hero they decided to keep the secret to themselves. This don't only occurs in movies this even happens in reality right now. The media lot of time try to cover up the truth with lies and we many of the times end up believing them. They lie because it will be worst if people find out that they have been lying to the public and then they will loose our trust in them and loosing the trust of their viewers means low rankings and the loss of millions of dollars. The media pretty much control everything from the clothes we wear to the food that we eat, weather they lie to us or not we will never know the difference because to us "spectators" we believe they're always telling us the truth and they shouldn't lie to us about things that we believe are really serious stuff.

Blog 5: Plan for media paper

My topic for my midterm is going to be "Cell phones". Cell phones have played a big part in the mass media evolution. In the way that you can still stay in touch with friends and family from any place in the World.

I'll make research about everything there is to know about cell phones int he internet.

Blog 3: The Matrix Analysis

Most of the time things are not what they’re seem to be in this world. Sometimes people think somethings are perfect or true when in reality that thing might not be so perfect at all and false and whatever they were thinking about it was or it is just an illusion. Whenever you realize that you have been lied too and you were living under this illusion you feel disappointed at yourself, because you feel like you’ve been lied to your whole life, living under this false illusion.“The Matrix” and “Plato’s  Allegory of the cave” are two perfect resources to get my idea across and talk about how bad or good people feel after finding out the truth.

“The Matrix” is a movie where humans brains are controlled by computers it make them believe they live in a real world where actually they live in the matrix a fake world that looks like the real world. In reality their brains are connected to computers and the computers make them feel like everything they’re doing is real. Neo is kind of like the main character of the movie and he always had the feeling that he was living in ‘a dream inside a dream”. Neo is then approached by this group of people who make him choose between knowing the real world or stay in the matrix, he then chooses to know the real world “Reality”. After Neo is shown the true world and the illusion that he has been living under it was all a lie by the leader of the group named “Morpheous”, at first he can’t believe it and it takes him a while to get himself back together. At the end of the movie Neo learns how to decode the matrix and now he knows that everything is possible in the matrix.

In “Plato’s Allegory of the cave”  Prisoners are chained in a cave for their whole entire lives with only a light up fire behind them and all they can see is the shadow of the people crossing by. Prisoners will often live under an illusion of what they believe how the world was outside the cave. They have never been able to step out of the cave and see the out side world. If one of the prisoners was to be set free he will then see he has been wrong about how the outside world looks like and that reality was better than what he imagined. If the prisoner who was set free tried to tell the other prisoner what he saw outside the cave they would ignore him because they prefer to live under the illusion that they have in their minds.

Neo was living in this imaginary like world where everything is not what it seems its just machines making your brain believe that you’re really doing whatever is it that you’re doing. He then realized that this world where he has been living his whole entire life was called “The Matrix” a world dominated by only illusions. The prisoners will spend their whole lives in the cave believing in something that not even them knew if what they believed  in was real. After Neo realized the truth and saw the reality world it took him sometime to get used to it and so did the prisoners if they ever get set free from the cave. Neo thought that it was better to get to know the reality of the situation than keep on living in the matrix unlike the prisoners who never get to get out of the cave and stay living under one illusion their whole entire lives.

Blog 4:Reflection

1) I’ve learn a couple of new things this past 3 weeks about writing academic texts. One of them was that you should always come up with a thesis when writing an essay so you could get your point across. I’ve learned that you should give examples that have taken place in real life. Last but not least I learned that free writing is a great way to get better at writing essays. The other stuff we’ve learn I’ve learned them throughout my four years in high school.
2) My thoughts about the interaction with ENA 099 was that it was a good way to help them and give them advices of how to get better in writing, that’s something that I would like to get from other different classes I will like them to read my blogs and tell me what I can do to be better at writing my blogs. Interactions like this make blogging much interesting because it feels good to help others and to read other blogs too. Writing to someone not in class is different from making comments on classmates’ blogs because you don’t really know that person and you can be a little harsh on them and tell them what you really think. Criticizing someone else’s summary did make me more confident and made me realize what the criteria’s for a good summary are.
3) Sharing my ideas in my blog feels great and commenting and criticizing others peoples blogs is a great exercise because you can learn new techniques for writing your blogs and stuff and you can also learn what not to write in your blog.
